Overview
Explore Tawang at a Relaxed Pace
The 6-day Tawang journey is designed for travelers who want to experience the beauty of Arunachal Pradesh without feeling rushed. Starting from Guwahati, the route carries you through the valleys of Dirang, the alpine landscapes of Sangti, and the sacred sites of Tawang. Compared to the shorter 5-day tour, this itinerary gives you more time to pause, breathe, and truly enjoy the Himalayas.
Dirang Valley – Gateway to the Highlands
Surrounded by apple orchards, rivers, and monasteries, Dirang is the perfect place to break the long mountain drive. Its hot springs and fortress-style monasteries are favorite stops for travelers heading to Tawang.
Sangti Valley – A Peaceful Retreat
A short drive from Dirang leads to Sangti Valley, a quiet paradise where meadows, grazing yaks, and riverside villages make time feel slower. In winter, the valley becomes the seasonal home of the rare black-necked crane, a sight that makes this place even more special.
Tawang Monastery – Crown of the Himalayas
Standing tall for more than 300 years, Tawang Monastery is the largest in India. Its golden roofs shine above the valley, and the sound of chanting monks fills the air with calm. A visit here is both spiritual and cultural, offering insight into the heart of Arunachal Pradesh.
Sela Pass and Jaswant Garh – Stories of the Mountains
At 13,700 ft, Sela Pass is one of the most breathtaking mountain crossings in India. Snow, turquoise lakes, and prayer flags make it an unforgettable stop. Along the route stands the Jaswant Garh War Memorial, dedicated to Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat, whose bravery in 1962 remains legendary.
Alpine Lakes and Waterfalls
The journey also includes the famous Sangetsar Lake (Madhuri Lake) and PT Tso Lake, both known for their pristine beauty and mountain reflections. On the way, you will also witness Nuranang Waterfall, a dramatic cascade surrounded by greenery.
