Overview
This 5-day Tawang journey combines sacred monasteries, high mountain passes, pristine lakes, and living history. It is a short escape, but one that leaves a lifetime of memories.
Discover the Spirit of Tawang
Embark on a breathtaking journey to the mystical land of Tawang with our 5-day tour package. Starting from Guwahati, the route takes you along river valleys, into alpine landscapes, and over one of the highest motorable passes in India before reaching the sacred town of Tawang. In just five days, you experience a blend of natural beauty, spirituality, and history that captures the soul of Arunachal Pradesh.
Tawang Monastery – A Living Legacy
The highlight of the town, Tawang Monastery is the largest in India and more than 300 years old. Its golden rooftops shine above the valley while the chants of monks echo through the halls, filling the air with peace. It is both a spiritual center and a cultural treasure, offering a window into Buddhist traditions and Himalayan life.
Sela Pass – Gateway to Heaven
At 13,700 ft, Sela Pass is a breathtaking crossing where snow blankets the mountains for much of the year. Beside it lies the turquoise Sela Lake, frozen in winter and sparkling in summer. Local legend says the pass is named after a Monpa woman, Sela, who gave her life during battle — a story of loyalty and courage that makes the journey even more moving.
Jaswant Garh War Memorial – Hero of the Valley
A little further along stands the Jaswant Garh War Memorial, dedicated to Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat, who held off enemy forces during the 1962 Indo-China war. The Indian Army still maintains his post as if he were alive, keeping his legacy of bravery alive for all who pass through.
Sangti Valley – The Hidden Gem
Nestled near Dirang, Sangti Valley is a peaceful retreat with apple orchards, meadows, and grazing yaks. In winter, the valley becomes the seasonal home of the rare black-necked cranes, adding to its magic. For travelers, it is a perfect pause to breathe, relax, and take in the serenity of Arunachal’s landscapes.
Alpine Lakes and Waterfalls
The journey also takes you to the calm waters of Sangetsar Lake (Madhuri Lake) and PT Tso, whose reflections of the surrounding peaks create postcard views. On the way, you will also witness the stunning Nuranang Waterfall, cascading powerfully against a lush backdrop, one of the most beautiful sights in the region.
